Activities
AWC runs a number of annual and semi-annual activities to support its mission of promoting the recruitment and retention of women in technology- and computer-oriented professions. These activities are designed to foster professional development and contribute to the local community. We also have many social activities to help build an enduring sense of community.
Meetings
We meet weekly. Our meetings are a place to meet, plan our activities, and hear some great talks from people from the industry, and to have fun. They also include dinner! Our general body meetings are typically every 3rd Tuesday of the month from 7:00 pm to 8:00 pm. Additionally, we have workshops and open hour/study sessions. Feel free to stop by our meetings and get to know a little bit more about AWC. Everybody is welcome! To find out when the next meeting is, check out the events calendar.

Grace Hopper Celebration of Women in Computing
Every year, the AWC sends some members to the Grace Hopper Celebration of Women in Computing (GHC)! An energetic and inspirational celebration of women in computing, the GHC is designed to bring together women in computing related careers. This conference provides a forum for sharing research, providing mentorship, and empowering the next generation of women in computing.
But wait! Can I go to this amazing conference?
If you want to attend Grace Hopper conference with us, get involved with AWC! AWC tries to provide several Grace Hopper Conference scholarships (courtesy of the CS Department) to active members who attend meetings and events. Attendance is our biggest consideration when choosing people to go!
Women in Computing Day
The Association for Women in Computing hosts an outreach event every Spring semester in order to introduce girls (6th and 7th grade) to the world of computing. The event is called Women in Computing Day. This year is our 21st annual Women in Computing Day! This event is extremely important for girls at this age, and more importantly for the field of computing. The male to female ratio within the field still remains extremely low due to the fact that girls are not exposed to the field as often growing up. This is one of the main reasons we believe so much in this event and the main purpose of our club. During the event, the girls participate in four different activities in order expose them to the different possibilities in the field. The activities in past have introduced girls to Coding using Snap, Circuits using LEDs and batteries, App Design and Biotechnology.
